Lilla Szilvassy, one of Lake Forest Academy’s most motivated basketball players, has harnessed significant attention in her senior year on the Girls Varsity Basketball Team, earning the title of Player of the Month. Transferring to LFA her junior year, Lilla has entered her second year on the team, already establishing and proving her impact on and off the court, receiving accolades in titles such as captain of the team and receiving All-Tournament honors in the Hill School Girls Basketball tournament for the second year in a row.

Born and raised in Hungary, Lilla has always had a passion for basketball dating back to when she was a kid. “I’ve always loved being part of a team, and basketball gave me the chance to compete while also learning discipline and teamwork.” While it became a practical endeavor, training with friends, shooting in her free time, the sport taught Lilla about collaboration and responsibility – qualities she can apply outside of basketball. “I like how it challenges me both mentally and physically,” Lilla stated, referencing her passion for the game as her prime motivation to give her all every time she steps onto the court.

Beyond her own game, being captain and a senior on the team places Lilla in a leadership role. Preferring to “lead by example”, whether it is positivity on the bench or tremendous effort in a game, her character elevates what she brings to the team. Especially with new players, Lilla explained, “I also make an effort to check in with younger teammates, offer advice, and create a positive environment where everyone feels supported.” In a team sport where the dynamic of a team can impact performance so intensely, Lilla understands how important that team bond can be.

Averaging 16 points per game, Lilla’s impact on the court is undeniable. However, Lilla’s performance comes with decisive preparations and dedication. “Before a game, I always listen to my favorite hype playlist, do a focused warm-up, and take a moment to visualize how I want to play.” These habits of her routine are perfect examples of Lilla’s dedication and love for basketball – such love that has helped her become the player and the person she is today.
