Boys Basketball
Boys Varsity Basketball had a very successful winter season. The team went 23-6, the best record in recent years. In addition, LFA went undefeated at home this year, partly thanks to incredible support from LFA students and staff members inside the new athletic center. The team capped an incredible season off with a championship win at the LFA Invitational, beating Don Bosco 48-47. Player Botond Szabó-Zsámba ‘27 said, “It’s the best season I’ve ever had. The team chemistry was really good both on and off the court, which I think was the biggest part of being a successful team.” The boys look to build off their incredible season next year.
Girls Basketball
Girls Varsity Basketball closed their season on a high, ending with a 26-5-0 record. Throughout their conference games, the girls team attended three tournaments, emerging victorious as the champions of two. In the Vernon Hills Cougar Classic Tournament in late November, the girls won all five games, defeating rival LFHS to clinch their victory. The Round Lake MLK tournament in January was another great opportunity for the girls team to prove themselves against strong public high schools on the north shore. Besting the Highland Park high school team in the championship 57-48, the girls dominated the tournament, returning home with some hardware.
Boys Hockey
Ending their season with a trail of victories, Boys Varsity Hockey closed their season of success placing 2nd in the Presidents Day Tournament. Despite losing veteran players Santi Delgado ‘25, Joseph Satriano ‘25, as well as Monte Qu ‘25 late in the season, they still had success. Senior Ford Sweet had a lot on his hands with several teammates out, and he came up big time scoring 8 goals in 5 games. Ultimately, the team dealt with multiple injuries and illnesses that influenced their regular season but still found ways to win games against strong opponents.
Girls Hockey
LFA Girls Varsity Hockey finished their season strong with a 6-7-2 record, earning a spot in the Founders Cup Tournament, which they haven’t made since 2019. With the help of new Head Coach Erin Stoney, the girls have been able to instill success across the board, tripling their wins from last season. Although their season ended with a tough loss in the semifinal game against Chicago Central, the girls finished their season playing as a unit, using their teamwork to create a competitive game.
Squash
In Head Coach Islam Adel’s first season, the varsity squash team performed at their highest level. LFA Squash finished their season with an 11-4 record, the best in recent history. With a resounding 9-0 sweep of Latin in the State Championship, LFA has won the trophy in back-to-back seasons. This year was the first time that LFA could practice and host matches at home, thanks to the five new courts on campus, which made it a lot easier for the team to get their work in. Adel said, “Due to all the hard work we put in, we knew we were going to win [the championship].” The team is looking forward to next season already, aiming for the three-peat.
