At the end of today, we received our certificates! We had a superb and informative weekend with the Harvard Crimson Journalism Summit and would like to thank Mr. Eleveld for introducing us to the event. We highly encourage current and future journalism students to take part next year!

We had the amazing opportunity to meet and talk to the President of the Crimson McKenna McKrell, who gave us insight into what it is like to run a daily newspaper, her role as President, and how she navigates obstacles regarding the paper. Afterwards, we were taken on a behind the scenes tour of the Crimson; we both enjoyed seeing their newsroom in action.

During our lunch break, we finished our photojournalism project and decided to check out the Harvard Coop: a large book and merch store. Alex bought 50 Successful Harvard Application Essays and I bought The Waste Land. We also found a super unique manikin!

This morning, we woke up bright and early to get a head start on our weekend project: a photojournalism presentation on a repeated issue occurring in Harvard Square. Alex and I chose to cover the abundance of stores going out of business and the underlying cause to this. Soon, we will attend a journalism leadership panel with Senior Staff Editors and leaders from the New York Times and NBC.

As rain continues to shower on Boston, our workshop has proven to shine through the grey. We have already learned about reporting on Arts & Entertainment, Politics and Editorials. We were introduced to our weekend project which we will expand more on tomorrow!

At 10 a.m. this morning, we arrived at 14 Plympton Street — the official and historical building of the Harvard Crimson. After registration, we had a Crimson Journalism Summit introduction and had the opportunity to glance through the Crimson’s latest edition. Our classes this morning are on Journalism Fundamentals & Ethical Reporting and a Breaking News Simulation activity.

We finally landed in Boston and made it to the hotel! Our hotel is in Kenmore and only 15 minutes from Harvard University. We love the views of the city and look forward to the beginning of the workshop tomorrow!
