Boys Golf: The boys golf team is looking to capture their third consecutive ISL championship. After losing five seniors following last season the team is much younger than previous years. This is the first time in Head Coach Ben Wetherbee’s tenure that they have had zero seniors on their roster. Coach Wetherbee was surprised by the teams comradery towards each other, saying, “This team is big into the team element that high school golf brings and they have grown to love each other in a very short amount of time.” The team is looking to fall back on their key contributors from last season, Fitz Knight ‘27, Louie Raines ‘27 and Mason Martin ‘28, as they hope for a championship push once again.
Boys Cross Country: The boys cross country team heads into the fall with strong chemistry and depth. 39 runners found their own groups to train and push each other. “We have numbers, and the guys really push themselves to get better,” Coach Ed Shaughnessy says. The juniors and seniors of the team have been leading by example to get the underclassmen ready for their toughest test yet, the ISL Championship. “Balance has been the word of the year”, Shaughnessy says; for him, this includes school, college visits, racing and keeping up the Caxy spirit.
Girls Golf: The girls golf team has exceeded expectations early, showing strong consistency and steady improvement. With players at different skill levels, the focus has been on building confidence and sharpening the short game, while ball striking remains a strength. Leadership is a key piece as well, with Mary Scheeringa ‘26 setting the tone by putting up consistently low rounds to help the team to victory.
Girls Volleyball: Girls volleyball has gotten off to a strong start. On the JV team, Heidi Freeman ‘29 had a perfect set serving and won 25 points in a row. The varsity squad is led by captains Riley Mormon 26’, Priya Johnson 26’ and Clare Vaughn 27’. Their two biggest events of the year are the rivalry matches against Latin and a Vernon Hills tournament that will feature some of the best teams in the area.
Boys Soccer: The boys team has started off hot. Varsity had an amazing 1-0 victory over Evanston Township High School. Head coach Paul Makovec commented on the team, saying, “The coaches never need to encourage the boys to come to practice, work hard, or be more passionate. I’m guessing if they weren’t on the team, they’d still be out there, on the fields, training, because they love the sport!” They have two overnight trips to end the season, with one in Ohio and the other in Iowa.
Girls Swimming: Girls swimming won their first meet of the year, beating Resurrection College Prep and St. Francis High School. Assistant Coach Alexander Gordon said, “I feel the team is really beginning to find their identity and interact the way a team should.” They have a big meet against rivals Latin on September 16 and other considerable events including the Lake County Swim Invitationals and the ISL Championships.
Field Hockey: The field hockey team is playing inspiringly to start the year. Varsity just came back from their weekend trip to Dexter, Michigan. They went 1-2 in Dexter losing to Mercy High School and Marian High School but beating Farmington United 2-0. Their captains are Peyton Pollak ‘26 and Christina Quiroz ‘26 — Head Coach Merdeith Norman describes them as captains “who are quiet but lead by example.” Most of their difficult games are already completed — now, they’re focused on preparing for the state series.
Girls Cross Country: The girls cross country team has come into the year with ample passion. In 2025, four out of their top seven varsity runners graduated, leaving opportunities for newcomers to step in and contribute. Their captains are Selina Ye 26’, Jennifer Ji 26’, Selah Omura 26’ and Esther Park ‘26. The team’s biggest event of the season is the LFA Invitational, which is also their senior night, on September 30.
Girls Tennis: The girls tennis team is heading into the season with high expectations. This is due to star sophomore Vivenne Wang ‘28 and the leader of their team, Sophia DeLise ‘26. One key event the team has had this season was the Joliet Invite where the girls went 3-0 against Bolingbrook, Joliet and Glenbard West. They are looking to keep up their great play as they head into the rest of the season.
