After a brief hiatus, the world eagerly anticipated the return of one of the most iconic events in fashion, the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: It did not disappoint. It was a show-stopping celebration of women’s empowerment, beauty and artistry. The show was set to enchant the audience with an impressive lineup of models, musical performances, and designs that pushed the boundaries of creativity. This year’s theme, “Reawakening Radiance,” invited a fresh wave of talent and a diverse roster of Angels.
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show began planning in February 2024, nine months before the show. Behind the scenes were many women-led teams. Becky Behringer, the EVP of Stores, mentioned one of the main objectives of the show was for it to be a women-led event. “It’s the first time we had both women producers (Sarah Sylvester and Janie Schaffer),” she said.
Alongside having women producers, Sarah Sylvester, Executive Producer of the 2024 show and EVP of Marketing, elaborated on the importance of having women-led teams, “We looked for that in a lot of our partners too, the CEO of the company we worked with was a woman.”
Another notable change in the 2024 show was the emphasis on diversity and inclusivity. In the past, the Victoria’s Secret brand faced criticism for the lack of representation of different body types, ethnicities and backgrounds. This year, the lineup featured a broader array of models, celebrating various sizes, shapes and identities. This shift was a response to growing demands from consumers for brands to reflect the diversity of their audience and promote a more inclusive vision of beauty. Sylvester shared, “We [VS&Co] had a weighed a [wide] range of requests, but we really worked with [the models] because the most important thing, no matter what shape, size, or color you are, is that you feel comfortable and confident because when you feel confident, you can do just about anything.”
After significant planning, the fashion show took place at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York. Victoria Secret also brought back many of the original models. “The OG models were incredibly happy to be back,” Sylvester said.
In addition to the significant anticipation of the fans to see returning Victoria Secret angels, such as Adriana Lima, there were also new appearances from legends in the modeling industry, such as Kate Moss, with a special feature from Lila Moss–her daughter. Additionally, the Hadid sisters opened and closed the show with Gigi opening and Bella closing.
Cher and Tyla took the stage, both delivering show-stopping performances that seamlessly blended classic Victoria Secret glamor with a touch of modern flair. Cher, with her iconic voice and dazzling costumes, captivated the audience, while Tyla brought her fresh energy and contemporary sound, creating dynamic energy in the show.
Eco-friendly materials were used for the outfits in the fashion show to reduce the show’s carbon footprint. This coincides with the event’s aim to set an example for other brands. This collaboration with sustainable designers and brands showcased how luxury and responsibility can coexist. Sylvester also shared that this was a reason for the iconic Victoria Secret angel wings not having feathers this year. As the fashion world continues to evolve, the VSFS is stepping forward with a fresh perspective, proving that the charm of the runway can coexist with authenticity and responsibility. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the brand, the 2024 show was an unforgettable experience that celebrated beauty in all its forms.
