As the first snow of the winter season falls upon Lake Forest Academy, the community must adjust to the chilling temperature drop. Winter fashion is becoming more prevalent day-after-day as we bundle ourselves in coats, scarves, and hats while blankets of snow enrobe our campus. Finding affordable and fashionable places to shop for December can be difficult; we will cover all the local and stylish stores so that the LFA community can stay warm, voguish, and confident during the winter.
Holiday shopping doesn’t have to break the bank; there are plenty of options if you’re looking to not blow that Christmas bonus. For example, Target has some wonderful options for decorating. Whether it’s your home or dorm, there are many cute lights and other accessories that can be used to dress things up for the season. Another holiday classic, The North Face offers a great variety of cold weather clothing, perfect for the long Chicago winter.
For those looking to invest in a special item of fashion for the upcoming holidays, various local stores may accommodate what you’re looking for. As close as downtown Lake Forest, one can find the cozy and charming Valentina. Already a favorite among many LFA girls, Valentina carries toasty wool and cashmere sweaters, adorable and dainty jewelry, as well as decorative winter-scented candles. In the popular Old Orchard Mall, lies the multifaceted Nordstrom. Nordstrom carries a plethora of brands from Armani to Zadig & Voltaire. Jackets, scarves, gloves, hats, and boots in all styles can be found at Nordstrom. Lastly, if you are looking for a staple fashion accessory, Burberry in Rosemont is the place to go. Burberry carries timeless cashmere scarves that last a lifetime and look good with every winter outfit. From almond to zaffre, Burberry scarves make every hue look fabulous and chic.
Marven Hartoun, a Nordstrom employee, revealed that the holidays are “quarter zip season.” It is Nordstrom’s most popularly purchased item and is often a go-to gift for men. His best recommendation is a Peter Millar brand quarter-zip because it offers the best quality for the money spent. However, when taking a step back from his position at Nordstrom, Hartoun said, “A real gift I’d get is some kind of tech — AirPods, portable speakers — something people could use but won’t buy for themselves.”
As the final leaves of November are swept away and the first Christmas trees of the season begin to go up, the rush to find the perfect gift for endeared ones commences—along with the desire to find the perfect winter style this upcoming December.
