“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” is a Hulu reality-TV series following the lives of eight women; Taylor Frankie Paul, Mayci Neely, Layla Taylor, Mikayla Matthews, Jen Affleck, Jessi Draper, Miranda Hope and Whitney Leavitt, all originally part of a TikTok group called “MomTok.” Season 4 of the show aired on March 12, 2026; however, the most compelling parts of the story happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
Taylor Frankie Paul, often referred to as the “star of the show,” is infamous for her toxic on-and-off relationship with Dakota Mortenson. The last scene of the season shows Paul preparing to go on “The Bachelorette,” the very first time a public figure was going to be featured on the show. Despite her going on a show to find love, the cameras show her back at Mortenson’s house the night before filming was ready to begin.
On March 16, a few days after the latest season was released, all of the wives (excluding Paul) posted to their Instagram stories about an alleged domestic violence incident between Paul and Mortenson and announced that filming season 5 is paused for the time being.
This is not the first time that Paul and Mortenson were involved in violent behavior. The last event in the very first episode of the show reveals that Paul, in a heavily intoxicated state, attacked Mortenson and was arrested. Paul pled guilty to a third-degree count of aggravated assault and received probation.
Years later, just three days before Paul’s premiere on “The Bachelorette,” Mortenson sold the footage that originally got her arrested in 2023 to TMZ, and the entire world was in disbelief. The footage shows Paul, visibly intoxicated, yelling at Mortenson to leave her house, then resorting to throwing metal stools at him, the last of which happened to strike her daughter, who was five years old at the time. The video spread like wildfire, and a campaign to not air “The Bachelorette” quickly came about.
The following day, ABC announced that it would not be airing Paul’s season and would instead replace it with reruns of a previous season. According to Oscar Gracey, a producer for Entertainment Tonight, the majority of the season was centered around her kids and how much Paul loves being a mother. Since the TMZ footage directly disputes this, they had no other choice but to cancel the season altogether.
Mortenson filed a protective order on Paul and has temporary sole custody of the child they share. Paul then filed her own temporary restraining order, citing Mortenson’s alleged “pattern of abusive conduct and coercive control.” As of April 14, Paul will not face new charges following a domestic violence investigation.
As of right now, filming for season 5 is still paused, with no updates on when it might resume. However, Draper confirmed that 6 episodes of the new season have already been shot, but it remains unclear if they will ever see the light of day.
